Volunteer Descriptions

PARENT VOLUNTEER JOBS AND DESCRIPTIONS
(Volunteers must be over the age of 18)

We cannot run successful swim meets without parent volunteers. Each family is required to volunteer for at least 4 sessions during home and/or away meets (maximum 1 session as an alternate). Only parents of pre-team swimmers can volunteer for speedy meets. A session is defined as half of Team meet for about 2 hours per meet. Session 1 will be from approximately 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Session 2 will be from approximately 7:30-9:30 p.m. A session for a pre-team meet is the full meet (approximately 8:30-10:30 a.m.).

While we understand that emergencies and other situations pop up that impact a parent's availability, we ask that you please let Team Volunteer Coordinators know when you cannot make your shift so that arrangements can be made to fill your spot. If you fail to let the Volunteer Coordinators know that you cannot make your shift, you will be charged a penalty of $25, which will be donated to the team.

Child Gatherers are provided a list of swimmers in the events in the order in which they swim. Using this list they will collect Highland Creek swimmers and deliver to the Clerk of Course.

Clerk of Course Assistants will receive swimmers from child gatherers and make sure they are in the correct lane for their heats.

Concession Workers will assist in the concession stand at home meets.

Ribbon Distributor will distribute ribbons to 10 and under heat winners.

Time Recorder will record the times of Highland Creek swimmers from ribbons. (Junior team meets only)

Timers:

Regulation meets: Timers will time the swimmer in their assigned lane. There will be a Timers' meeting 15 minutes prior to the start of the meet that you must attend to receive instruction and lane assignment.

Speedy meets: Timers will use stopwatches to time the swimmer in their assigned lane. They should start timing when the starter beep/light goes off and stop timing when the swimmer touches the wall. There will be two timers for each lane (one from each team). Timers should write the lower time on the provided sticker and give it to the swimmer with the designated ribbon for that race.

Stroke & Turn Judge will make sure that all swimmers are swimming according to the rules for strokes in US swimming. Stroke & Turn judges will have the power to disqualify swimmers who do not comply with those rules. Interested persons will need to complete an online training course and email completion certificate to [email protected] to receive reimbursement for the cost of the training. There will be a stroke and turn meeting 15 minutes prior to the start of the meet. Certificate is only good for 2 years so recertification is required to continue as stroke and turn judge. (Senior team meets only)

Head Timer/Runner will run an extra timer as needed and will collect DQ sheets from stroke and turn judges throughout the meet as well as monitor the swimmer area to help maintain the space and team.

Set Up will set up parking cones, signs and block parking spots for home and visiting teams' coaches and place directional and welcome signs out on Parkway. Set up pool deck including: swimmers' bullpens, rope off pool deck, starting blocks, and heat benches. Set up concession stand. Shift begins at 4:00 p.m.

Clean Up will collect parking signs and cones, store benches, starting blocks, ropes and poles and replace all chairs on deck, collect and empty all trash. Meets end at approximately 9:30 p.m., clean up is about a 45-minute process.
