Highland Creek Hurricanes

Welcome!

Welcome to the Hurricane's 31st swim season in the North Star Swim League! We look forward to another great season of swim team here in Highland Creek. In addition to encouraging community pride, we aim to provide our children with a positive atmosphere of personal growth and for them to have fun with other kids in the neighborhood. We hope to inspire each swimmer to compete not only as a team member against other neighborhood teams and between each other, but to compete against their own individual times. You will be amazed at how your child will improve their times over the course of the season.

A few items worth highlighting:

Communication: This year we will continue to communicate updates and news through e-mail and GroupMe.

Please refer to the team website https://hch.swimtopia.com/ for the following info:

  • Directions to all away meets
  • Practice times
  • Volunteer sign up
  • Heat sheets
  • Meet results

Please contact the coaching staff at: [email protected] for following:

  • Swimmer sign-outs
  • Swim meet entry

Document Your Swimmer’s Availability. This can be done through hch.swimtopia.com. Your child's availability to attend or not to attend may affect another swimmer's opportunity to participate in a meet. Please be aware that our coaches are coordinating over 180 swimmers and the league allows only 120 swimmers to participate at the regulation meets. Please be considerate by documenting expected out of town trips, camps, and other commitments that will conflict with the Hurricanes' schedule.

Parent/Swimmer Expectations:

  • All parents of the children who compete in the League Championships will be obliged to fulfill volunteer positions for each of those events.
  • For liability issues, under no circumstances will anyone other than coaches, lifeguards, and/or board members of HCST be permitted on the pool deck during practice sessions. (This includes siblings who are on the swim team but practice at different times.) We need all parents' cooperation with enforcing this policy.
  • Homeowner's Association dues must be current in order to participate on the swim team.
  • Please do not approach any of our coaches during practice or meets with issues that can be handled before the practice or meet.
  • Each family will have a file in the boxes displayed at the pool daily. Please check your child's file weekly for any information that may be handed out or ribbons that may be distributed to the swimmers.
  • For your child's safety, he/she must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted.
  • League rules state all swimmers shall wear the team uniform – a solid black bathing suit – during swim meets. If the swimmer chooses to wear a swim cap, it must be the team cap.
  • If your child cannot attend at all during May practices, swim team may not be the sport for you. You may want to reconsider registering.
  • Qualifications for championships include participation in 2-regulation meets and achieving league-qualifying standards. Qualifying times are posted on the team website at hch.swimtopia.com.
  • All swimmers and parents will be expected to display positive, appropriate, and respectful behavior toward others and property at all times.
  • A swimmer may be removed from practice or a meet at the discretion of the coaches or meet director for inappropriate behavior.
  • Swimmers are required to remain on deck with the team during swim meets.
  • ALL swimmers are to participate in the Swim-a-thon as this is the main fundraiser for our team.
  • A swimmer's age as of June 1st shall determine his/her age group for individual events.
